Beginner overnight float.

Details

How many times have you wanted to go on an overnight float where you can camp on the edge of the river yet the write up says if you have never done this before this may not be the trip for you. Well, this event is for you. Even if you have never floated before and understand you will be sleeping in the wilds on a sand bar this event is for you. Join us and cut your teeth on one of the best types camping there is. We are using Adventure Outdoors (AO) on Thurman Lake Road. The put in is Woodson K Woods. On Sat we will float down about 5 miles and set up camp on state dept of conservation land. Sunday at your leisure we will break camp and float to the cars at AO.

Due to the nature of this trip this will be a mostly shine event. That means if it looks like it is going to be raining all day or night the trip date will be moved. The same if the river is up.
AO rents canoes and kayaks. However the kayaks are small sit on top types not suitable for camp gear. The cost for 1 canoe is $50.00 the first day and $25.00 the second day. So two people per canoe makes the rental $37.50 each. The shuttle is $30.00 per boat or person. He said you need cash or checks! The number to call is (573) 775-5744 leave a message Mark will call you back.
Try to arrive at AO by 9 AM
You must call and reserve your canoe or shuttle before May 31st. Please do not show up the day of the event without calling to reserve your boat. Tell them you are with the overnight Meetup group. You all that are going to rent need to pair up very soon. I suggest if this is your first time on the water to pair up with someone experienced. I am planning on bringing my single seat canoe however I can also go in on a rental with some one.
Several miles down I suggest we get out at the springs and go look at the trout pools and other things at Maramec Spring Park. When we get to our camp spot it would be best if you help gather firewood before setting up camp fishing, tromping through the woods or playing in the water.
Also, I will post a list of recommended gear. Trust me if you have to ask will I need this you probably won’t. Unfortunately there is no overnight parking at Woodson K Woods so this necessitates using an outfitter to shuttle us.
If you plan on fishing message me there are some restrictions on that part of the river being a trout stream.
Please make sure your communication settings are set so you can receive messages.

COVID-19 safety measures

Event will be outdoor
It's best if you wear a mask on the bus and carpooling. I assume you are responsible adults and can make your own decisions.
The event host is instituting the above safety measures for this event. Meetup is not responsible for ensuring, and will not independently verify, that these precautions are followed.
