Today’s class is on “Things that go click in the night” a deeper look at the fun and challenges of night photography. This class will increase your understanding of how to prepare for and execute more impactful night photography images.

Jeff will cover some of the planning principles of night photography.

  1. Go into detail and discover the types of night photography from star, milky way, moon, aurora borealis, eclipse, and comet photography.
  2. Learn how to shoot Fireworks.
  3. Learn how to use tools like PhotoPills to plan and execute night photography
  4. Deepen your understanding of what rules to use for night photography to get the sharpest images.
  5. Learn your camera settings. What are the ideal settings for night images? What is the value of Long Exposure Noise Reduction?
  6. Evaluate your gear selection. What things do you really need to improve your chances of capturing the images the way you want!

The second half of class will be all about processing

  1. Learn how to deal with noise in our images.
  2. Explore the use of external programs like StarStax for star trails.
  3. Evaluate what types of edits you want to do in Photoshop vs the treatment of RAW files within Lightroom or Adobe Camera Raw.
  4. Discover the value of the local adjustments vs the global adjustments and how can you align depth, texture, luminosity, sharpness, and focus on your processing and by using the tools in Lightroom or Adobe Camera Raw.

Late comers are always welcome and stay as long as your schedule permits. Please don't feel obligated to stay the whole two hours. We know your Saturday hours are valuable.

There will be lots of learning and laughter. Jeff Donald will teach each session and he's a certified Photographic Counselor by PMA. He taught photography for 4 years at Montana State University and started the Digital Photography program at the Dunedin Fine Art Center in 2002. Jeff worked for Apple Computer, Ritz Camera Center, and several regional camera retail chains and has worked with 1000's of customers and students during that time.
