This months speaker:
Gina McClain
Save the Manatee Club
Volunteer Specialist
Gina McClain is thrilled to be Save the Manatee Club’s (SMC) first dedicated Volunteer Specialist. Gina pivoted from a successful career in the 'for-profit' world and is very fulfilled working with a non-profit, especially one that is focused on manatees! Gina is a Florida native who grew up in and around Lady Lake and spent many school and family outings in the lakes, rivers, and the oceans around Florida. She has experienced manatees in the wild since she was a small child and absolutely loves being able to advocate and support manatees as an adult!
After living in other parts of our country, Gina and her husband moved back to Florida over 21 years ago and she was then able to participate live and in-person after supporting SMC from afar by adopting manatees as gifts. For the past 5 years, Gina has volunteered with SMC at festivals, park clean-ups, and at Blue Spring State Park as a Manatee Observer. Gina is a Florida State Park volunteer and is a board member of the Citizen Support Organization, The Friends of Blue Spring State Park. With all of these volunteer opportunities, Gina has educated and interacted with thousands of folks about how humans can better support manatees by exhibiting the correct behaviors.
