What is Pollination

If you ever wondered about pollination, or why flowers look and smell like they do, this is your opportunity to get some insight into the process. Almost 85% of all living species of plants depend on animals to carry pollen from one flower to another. Prepare to be amazed at the variety of methods that have developed to ensure the next generations of plants and to encourage animals to provide this essential service for the plants. Using his own photographs and internet resources, Dr. Burchsted will discuss (in non-scientific terms) how pollination takes place, the co-evolution of flowers and pollinaters, methods of attracting pollinaters, ways that pollinaters use the pollen and nectar they obtain from the plants, how some plants and animals cheat their partners, and some of the problems facing
pollinators today.
