PUBLIC - FAST PACE - MODERATE DIFFICULTY - 10ish miles
It is an hour drive from PGA, so we will start promptly at 9:00 am to give folks a chance to drive up!!
This beautiful preserve is comprised of 494 acres and is owned by St. Lucie County. There are actually 3 preserves: Paleo, Hackberry and Teague. You will see a variety of habitats including a Hammock with some very old Hickory, Florida Elm, Sugarberry, Live Oak, Laurel Oak, Depression Marsh and basin swamp. Commonly seen wildlife include: Deer, turkey, ibis, heron, barred owl, cardinal, mockingbird, catbird and flycatcher! Part of the hike will be on the one mile interpretive trail that goes through a very old forest of elms, oaks and palms. An elevated observation deck overlooks the marsh.
Please bring 2 liters of water (FOUR 16oz bottles), snacks/lunch, insect repellant, sunscreen and a hat!
