Join Amy for a 6 - 8 mile hike in the backwoods of Jonathan Dickinson State Park - an area that most hikers don't get to see and explore. This is an introduction to maintenance hike - there will be NO tools and NO work, just a hike to show the back roads of areas that we travel to and through to get to our maintenance areas. We will also discuss how the average hiker can help and assist the chapter with maintenance.

The hike will be on dirt roads, we will try to move at a brisk pace of at least 3 MPH which is a 20 minute mile. We will have 1 or 2 breaks. It is very dry now, but be prepared for mud/water just in case. I will try to steer clear of water and mud.

We will meet at 8:00 am at Kitching Creek Preserve Parking Lot located at 6125 SE 138th Street in Hobe Sound, Florida (off of Bridge Road). There are 2 turnoffs from Bridge Road to get to this location, so if you pass the first one (138th), you can be re-routed to the 2nd one (Powerline Road). Bridge road can be dicey, so please pay attention to your navigator so you can turn off without disrupting traffic. The parking lot is small but we can fit about 8-10 cars. We will then carpool in 2 cars about 1.5 miles to start the hike. Hikers CANNOT leave early, so if you can't complete the entire 6-8 miles, this hike is not for you.

Since I have to limit attendance, if you sign up but cannot attend, PLEASE take yourself off the list at least 48 hours prior to the hike to allow others to attend.

A weighted back pack is not necessary but wear one if you want to challenge yourself. You need to bring at least 2 liters to drink and a snack or I may turn you away.
