Join Florida Voices for Animals for our next Biweekly Hike and Vegan Eats at beautiful John Chesnut Sr. Park along Lake Tarpon.
We’ll explore a combination of the John Chesnut Park Loop and Peggy Park Nature Trail, including shaded natural trails and boardwalk sections with plenty of opportunities for wildlife viewing.
Our Biweekly Hike and Vegan Eats series is a great way to:
- Connect with like-minded people
- Spend time outdoors and support physical and mental well-being
- Support local vegan businesses after the hike
Event plan
Start time: 8:00 AM sharp
1) Meet and greet (8:00–8:10 AM)
We’ll meet at Parking Lot 1 — the first parking lot after entering the park, near the trailhead and restrooms. Quick introductions and route overview before we start.
2) Group hike (8:10–10:30 AM approximately)
We’ll start with the John Chesnut Park Loop and also explore the Peggy Park Nature Trail.
🥾 John Chesnut Park Loop: about 2.7-3.2 miles
🌿 Peggy Park Nature Trail: about 0.8-1.2 mile
🚶 Planned total: approximately 3.5 - 4.4 miles
⏱️ Group time: approximately 2 to 2.5 hours, allowing for wildlife viewing, photos, and regrouping
📈 Difficulty: Easy
The exact route may be adjusted slightly depending on trail conditions, weather, and group pace.
3) Vegan Eats (around 11:00 AM)
After the hike, we’ll drive about 7 minutes to The Green Table Restaurant for vegan food and community time.

Weather note 🌦️
The forecast currently looks favorable for the morning hike, with cloudy conditions expected during much of our hiking window. However, this is Florida in summer and weather can change quickly, so please bring light rain protection just in case.
If there is dangerous weather such as lightning or heavy storms, we’ll adjust the route or plan as necessary.
Summer and bug warning 🦟
Mosquitoes and other biting insects can be active this time of year, especially around wooded and wetland areas. Bug spray is strongly recommended.
Trails may also be damp or muddy after recent rain, so wear shoes that you don’t mind getting dirty.
