Kayak at Oleta River in North Miami followed by lunch nearby
Details
Join us for kayaking at one of my favorite places in North Miami, Oleta River State Park. Florida's largest urban park, Oleta River is located on Biscayne Bay in the busy Miami metropolitan area. The park offers several recreational activities including kayaking, my favorite.
We will kayak through the beautiful mangrove forest preserves full of native South Florida plants and wildlife out into the open waters. There we will kayak around some islands and make a few stops. If tide is low, we may get to see the old sandbar where we made lots of memories years ago. (Sandbar was dredged.) There can be a strong current, so be prepared to paddle.
I suggest we book kayaks for 10am which means meeting between 930 and 945 to check in and get our gear. We want to be sure to beat the line at the entrance which can get long.
There is a small Park entrance fee of $6 is required at the gate.
As for Kayak rentals. I am suggesting 3hours so we can take our time. Rentals can be booked on-line--https://oletariveroutdoors.com/rentals/
Single: $55 (3hrs) and $40 (2hrs)
Double: $65 (3hrs) and $50 (2hrs)
ID is required to rent a vessel.
What to bring:
- ID (required to rent the kayak)
- sunscreen, a hat, long sleeve shirt (there is not much shade)
- plenty of water and a snack if you so choose
- change of clothes if you want to join us for lunch afterwards (There is a shower area and restrooms for changing.)
Hope to see you there!
Karen
