It’s January 1862 in the City of London. They call it “a Modern Babylon”.

There has not been a greater city since Rome at the height of empire. Millions live here amongst the mud and the gin, together in the slums and the high rises. Ships depart to every corner of the world. The sun never sets on the British Empire.

The city burst at the seams and there’s more than enough blood for everyone. This is the first time in centuries that the dead can gather in numbers in peace and without tearing each other together in war.

Queen Victoria and all her subjects are in mourning. The funeral of Prince Albert is tomorrow. Everyone is obsessed with death. London is soon to be released from a sombre mood that has lasted for decades. It is the start of an unstoppable growth in London’s nightlife that will go on for centuries, a sign that traditions are to be cast aside.

Paint The Town Red is a melancholic vampire tabletop game in which players create vampires afflicted with the Curse of Undeath, navigating vibrant, historically significant cities where the undead form a bustling nightlife. Sessions resemble lively nights out, complete with pre-drinks, loud music, smoking area, and hangovers, rather than heroic quests.
