Akshay Mittal is an accomplished technology leader and IEEE Senior Member with over a decade of experience as a full-stack developer, cloud architect and community builder. In his role as Staff Software Engineer at PayPal, he designs and scales high-performance cloud-native systems that support mission-critical financial services at global scale, leveraging expertise in distributed architectures, performance optimization and secure software engineering.

As a PhD candidate at the University of the Cumberlands, Akshay’s research advances cloud-native architectures through AI/ML-driven security and automation strategies. His work on explainable threat-detection models, adaptive policy-validation pipelines and automated remediation frameworks directly informs best practices for secure CI/CD in serverless and microservices environments, bridging rigorous academic research and production-grade solutions.
Since 2019, Akshay has been an active speaker at technology conferences— including Developer Week, Kubernetes Austin and IEEE-sponsored workshops—sharing insights on cloud-native best practices, AI-enhanced DevOps and secure AI adoption. In February 2025, he attended Google’s AI workshop in Austin, gaining hands-on experience with the latest AI tools and frameworks.

A passionate volunteer and mentor, Akshay co-leads the GenAI Collective Austin, serves as Technical Advisor for ACM Texas State University, and organizes hands-on workshops through IEEE and ACM initiatives. His community engagement empowers aspiring engineers to adopt cutting-edge tools and practices, and fosters open knowledge-sharing across the Austin tech ecosystem. Akshay’s professional mission is to advance technical excellence, empower the next generation of technologists and foster innovation through collaborative learning. His leadership, research and sustained volunteer service make him an ideal contributor to the Google Developer Expert program.
