August Meetup / Summer Social @ Sour Mouse

Details
This month we are thrilled to be joined by Hillel Coren, Flutter GDE and founder of Invoice Ninja, who presented at our meetup back in 2019. Hillel has a wealth of experience with Flutter and you won't want to miss what he has to say. Our second speaker is Fernando Trigoso, the developer of Monarch, an exciting new open-source tool to build, test and debug complex UIs in Flutter!
This event will also be our Summer Social! We will be hosted by Sour Mouse, an amazing venue in the Lower East Side with pool, foosball, ping pong, and beer pong. Come debate state management packages over a glass of wine, craft beer, or cocktail. It's a cash bar but thanks to our sponsor Monarch we have a limited amount free drink vouchers, so be sure to come early to claim yours!
Flutter in Practice: What We’ve Learned Developing Invoice Ninja
We're coming up on almost five years of development at Invoice Ninja. In that time the team has learned a fair amount about Flutter. Founder Hillel Coren will share some of their key lessons during the session:
- Thoughts on state management options
- Techniques to optimize app performance
- Building responsive layouts for mobile/desktop/web
- Tips to improve developer efficiency
- Where Flutter is headed and how to prepare for it
Building User Interfaces in Isolation with Monarch
The responsibilities of front-end developers are massive. We are responsible for so many concerns: from networking to UI layouts, from business logic to accessibility, from navigation to gestures, etc. How can we act responsibly in this context? We need boundaries. We need to implement the separation of concerns principle in our user interface. We need to isolate our UI. In this talk we will discuss best practices for building a Flutter UI in isolation and why Monarch, a new open source tool, is the best tool for the job.
