The System & Escape from Capitalism
Harmony Public Library, 4616 S. Shields, Fort Collins, CO, USOur May book gathering will focus on TWO books: The System: Who Rigged It, How We Fix It by Robert Reich and Escape from Capitalism: An Intervention by Clara E. Mattei.
Participants will choose one book to read. During our discussion, we'll ask for main points to be summarized about both books. What's interesting about each of these books is that while they both focus on the dangers of our Capitalistic system, each author takes a different approach: Reich argues for Reforming a system that has been corrupted, and Mattei argues that Capitalism is a failed system at its root and argues for Abolishing it entirely. We hope that discussing these two views will be a way for us to understand these issues more deeply.
Join us as we share key takeaways and make space for connection and conversation about how this work relates to the global, national, and local threats facing democracy today and how we can be a part of making positive change.
This is a great opportunity to meet like-minded community members, learn together, and share ideas for real-world action. Bring a friend! While we encourage you to read the book, you are always welcome to attend for the discussion.

Mutual Aid: Building Solidarity During this Crisis & the Next
Harmony Public Library, 4616 S. Shields, Fort Collins, CO, USOur June book gathering will focus on the book: Mutual Aid: Building Solidarity During This Crisis (and the Next) by Dean Spade.
Mutual aid is the radical act of caring for each other while working to change the world.
Survival work, when done alongside social movement demands for transformative change, is called mutual aid. This book is about mutual aid: why it is so important, what it looks like, and how to do it. It provides a grassroots theory of mutual aid, describes how mutual aid is a crucial part of powerful movements for social justice, and offers concrete tools for organizing, such as how to work in groups, how to foster a collective decision-making process, how to prevent and address conflict, and how to deal with burnout.
