Surviving Autocracy - Discussion 2

Our next book club discussion will be on Saturday, June 7 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM. Please note the location change: We’ll be meeting at the Community Room at the Harmony Library in Fort Collins.

We’ll be finishing Surviving Autocracy, covering both Part II: Institutions and Part III: Culture. To make the most of our time, we’ll dedicate approximately 30 minutes to each section. Discussion Focus:

Institutions (Part II)

• How do democratic institutions become vulnerable to autocratic influence?

• What are the dangers of assuming institutions will automatically protect democracy?

• How can we better advocate for institutional accountability?

Culture (Part III)

• What cultural shifts have we observed that mirror Gessen’s analysis?

• How does the erosion of shared reality affect our ability to organize and resist?

• What cultural practices can we adopt to counter autocratic narratives?

We’ll also take some time to decide on our next reading selection. Please come prepared with suggestions or ideas for what you’d like to read next.
