ADHD and Emotional Energy: Why Motivation Comes and Goes

Details
So often we hear that people with ADHD “lack motivation.” But the truth is more complicated. The ADHD brain is deeply tied to emotional energy. When excitement is high, focus and follow-through feel effortless. When boredom sets in, everything feels impossible.
In this session we will explore why emotional fuel matters so much for ADHD, and why waiting for motivation rarely works. We will look at how emotions and executive function are connected, and how to manage energy in ways that support consistent action.
Together we will explore practical strategies for building routines that do not depend on sudden bursts of inspiration. We will also discuss how to reset during energy dips—through rest, reframing, and grounding practices—so that motivation can return without guilt or shame.
This is a space for learning, reflecting, and connecting with others who understand what it feels like when your drive disappears. You will leave with new insights and small steps you can begin using right away.
