Fogo Azul NJ Brings Samba Reggae Energy to New Jersey
Fogo Azul NJ is the newly launched New Jersey chapter of Fogo Azul NYC, the women-led samba reggae drumline that has electrified New York City streets since 2016. Founded in January 2025, the NJ ensemble is rooted in Afro-Brazilian traditions of Bahia while building something distinctly tied to New Jersey’s communities.
Fogo Azul is more than music. It is community, wellness, resistance, and solidarity. What began with a handful of members is growing into a vibrant group of women united by rhythm, joy, and purpose. No musical experience is required — just the desire to be part of something powerful.
Fogo Azul NJ is now welcoming new members. We are hoping to double our numbers.
Our meetups will center on
Music, drumming and sometimes infuse yoga. Come join us. Come drum with us. Experience the energy, empowerment, and connection of samba reggae!
