Join us to plant native plants along the Appomattox River Trail in Petersburg! FOLAR has received a grant via the Virginia Conservation Assistance Program to expand the Native Plant Garden at the Petersburg Trailhead. Parking is available at 527 University Boulevard, Petersburg; the trailhead is just across the road.

Help us restore native plants and local wildlife along the trail! Join us SUNDAY THE 24th (Rain check date, changed from the 23rd) of March. Volunteers will be planting flowers and shrubs native to the area, using hand tools such as trowels and shovels. There will be a planting tutorial at the beginning of the event.

  • No experience necessary. Training will be at the beginning of the event. A great opportunity to learn about gardening and your local native plants!
  • Gloves and tools will be provided, but feel free to bring your own if you prefer. Because we may be kneeling for plantings, handy knee pads will also be available.
  • Wear long pants that cover your ankles and sturdy closed-toed shoes.
  • Bring a water bottle to stay hydrated, and an optional snack. We may bring water and snacks, but we can't guarantee their availability for every event.
  • This event may be canceled in case of storms or heavy rain.
  • Parking is available at 527 University Blvd, Petersburg VA.

We will be working at the trailhead across the road (west) of the parking lot.
