12 km shoreline walk from Locarno Beach to Wreck Beach and back (3 hours)

We will gather outside the Locarno Park Concession/washroom area at 10 AM. We will depart around 10:15 AM. If you are late, please notify us but our latest departure will be 10:20 AM.

It is pay parking at Locarno/Spanish Banks beach area.

This is a 12 km shoreline walk from Locarno Beach to Wreck Beach and back. Low tide is 12:14 pm so we should be able to see the tide recede. In the morning, there are few people in the area around UBC shoreline so there are frequent bird sightings.

There is some loose rocks around Acadia Beach so flip flops are not recommended for this shoreline walk/hike.

We should arrive back after 1230 pm and for those of you interested, we will set up a pot luck lunch at Locarno Beach which will have its own meetup event for sign up. Please bring at least $14 in value in food per person for the potluck. I know prices have gone up. I based this price on a take out dish in a Richmond food court. I will bring a BBQ grill for shared use, a table and a canopy to the potluck event.

You must wear appropriate rain gear (i.e. waterproof clothing) should we encounter rain. All other hiking essentials are recommended, including 2 liters of water, a change of clothing, snacks etc.

This hike will be cancelled if there's moderate or heavy rain.

The pace of this hike will be moderate - I am not a fast hiker and am not in any rush to complete this hike as fast as possible. I expect this hike will take around 2.5 hours depending on trail and weather conditions. We will stick together as a group as best we possibly can.
