Edible and Medicinal Plant Hike @ Modjeska Canyon

Your local herbalist, medicinal plant guide and wild food forager Anthony, will be guiding you through the historic Modjeska Canyon in the Cleveland National Forest. On this short hike we’ll come across an impressive diversity and abundance of edible and medicinal plants that this canyon has to offer in our own backyard of the Santa Ana Mountains!
We'll discuss identification, edible and medicinal properties for each plant found. Information provided is not intended as medical advice. Please consult a trusted medical professional for questions regarding your health.
WHEN: Saturday November 16th, 2019 9AM -1PM.
LOCATION: Tucker Wildlife Sanctuary 29322 Modjeska Canyon Rd, Silverado, CA 92676
We will meet near the restrooms adjacent to Science Center. If parking is unavailable in marked spots please park further down the road where the white barriers begin. Property owners own both sides of the road leading up to the sanctuary and regularly mark off their property on the weekends.
Look for the man with the green flannel!
DIFFICULTY: Moderate. Mostly flat with climbing and descending one hill in the beginning and end of the hike, ~ 2 miles out and back with a total of 400ft elevation gain.
TERRAIN: rocky, gravel, uneven surfaces, dry creek bed.
SAFETY: Bring first aid kit, water, sun protection, and sturdy hiking boots. Possible hazards include rattlesnakes, mountain lions, cacti, poison oak, unstable ground, high cliffs, creek crossings, hot weather/sunburn, dehydration. Plan accordingly, be observant, and use good judgment.
FOOD: Bring your own lunch and/or snacks for the trail.
Bring at least 32oz or more of water. Bring twice as much on hot days.
CARPOOL: Parking is limited to a dozen or so spots next to the Sanctuary. If you are in need of a ride, please comment on the event discussion.

*Modjeska Canyon does not have cellphone reception, please contact me before 8am on the day of the hike with any questions or concerns.
*The Tucker Wildlife Sanctuary provides restrooms at no cost, donations help keep them operational. They appreciate cash donations or bringing toilet paper and paper towels for the facilities.
