Electric Beach / Kahe Pt to Makaha 10.5 Miles. -
Aloha, paddlers!
This outing is from Kahe Pt. (Electric Beach), to Makaha beach Park a distance of 10.7 miles, but we’ll be providing a shorter outing of 6 miles to Maile Beach Park for our members that don’t want to do the long course.
We’ll hope for a weather forecast of very light, nearly non-existent winds out of the East, and if true, the wind will be at our backs if our assumption holds true! If the weather is different, we could reverse our trip direction, but for now, the tentative plan is....
We’ll be meeting at Kahe Point Beach Park (Park is on ocean side of Farrington Hiway just across the hiway from the Hawaiian Electric Power Plant) at 8:00 AM to drop off kayaks and plan the take-outs. Those that want to do the shorter route, will shuttle cars to Maile beach (6 miles) or Waianae harbor (7.8 miles), and those that want to do the whole route will shuttle to Makaha Beach Park. Shuttle drivers will leave Kahe Point Beach Park at 8:20, and we’ll plan to paddle away between 9 and 9:30. We’ll do a ½ way stop at whatever point the short course paddlers plan to take out at, and then the rest of us will proceed on the final leg, which we should finish sometime between 1 and 1:30 PM.
It should be a fun route with a couple of good surf-spots along the way, frequent dolphin sightings, and it's always fun to ride the “upwelling” (water from the power plant) at Kahe. Also, make sure you bring plenty of water to drink cause this is one of our longer paddles, and let’s all hope for good weather! See ya there!
