NOW ON TO OUR NEXT OUTING INFO.:

Hawaii Kai to Sans Souci/Kaimana Beach Waikiki – 4 or 8.5 Miles - This is an 8 mile paddle, and we can take the “inside the reef” route for the 1st 4 miles to Diamond Head, or go straight outside and do a straight downwind paddle in the open ocean. Because it’s down-wind the 8 miles goes by quickly and its’ not as tiring as it would be otherwise. If you’d like to go on this adventure, but you’re not quite ready for 8 miles, there are 2 alternate routes. One stopping point will be Kahala Beach Park which is on the Hawaii Kai side of Diamond Head and only 4 miles from the start in Hawaii Kai, and it’s inside the reef all the way, so it’s a good paddle for our less experienced members and for those that like to stay off the open ocean. This 4 mile route will take about 1 to 1 ½ hours to complete. A second alternative route will be the 2nd ½ of the full paddle, a 4.5 mile paddle from Kahala Beach Park outside the reef, around Black Point and Diamond Head, then over to Sans Souci Beach Park in Waikiki. This route will take about 2 hours.

Surf permitting, we’ll make a stop at Doris Duke’s marina (weather and waves permitting). The shuttle for the short routes will be arranged at the gathering point in Hawaii Kai prior to cars leaving for the long course shuttle. The 8 mile route will take about 3 hours to finish, unless the surf is good at Diamond Head, in which case we may have to stop there for a while to catch a few waves, so we should finish the long course about 1:30 PM. We’ll be meeting at 8:00 AM in the parking lot at the Diamond Head end of the Hawaii Kai boat launch parking area – 6200 Kalanianaole Hwy. After off-loading kayaks, we will leave at about 8:20 to pre-position our cars at the finish points. Before we leave we will agree on our shuttle plan to bring everyone back to the kayaks at the starting point. We’ll plan on starting the paddle around 9:15 to 9:30 AM.
