What we’re about
Hola a todos!
This group is for people who want to be able to practice speaking out loud via reading in a selected language. We will take turns reading books in foreign languages (one language per session) to each other.
I firmly believe that the best way to acquire a language is to speak it. There is an overemphasis on memorization that goes completely against how we natively learn words. Being able to make your mouth take the shapes and proper sounds, as well as your ear to hear the proper sounds, takes physical practice. These requirements exist completely outside of the ability to know the words you read.
Reading out loud is a guided practice conversation. What's more, even if you do horribly you have learned what you sound like and now have the memory of you speaking more than you did before, whether they are your words or those of another.
This type of practice is essential to learning a language and the lack of it is why so many people can understand far more than they can say.
They simply aren't saying enough.
This group will focus on Spanish, French, and German contrary to what the cover art says. :)
The goal of this group is to give A1-B1 language students a place to read, in the presence of other people, out loud in order to work on pronunciation, word recognition, and accent. This is not a teaching space, but a work space to improve your own skills.
No corrections will be given, but feedback may be requested if desired. This is for personal growth in a group space.
