This will be about a 3-4 hour hike, including rest stops. We will be doing the Buck Spring Trail instead of Coontree. The Buck Spring trail has a number of options. The trail has 13 beautiful stream crossings via strategically placed rocks over its 6.2 miles. If you are not doing a car switch, which we are not, this is an out-and-back trail hike, which means if you did the entire trail you would end up doing 12.4 miles. But we are not doing the entire trail. I've gone far enough to cross 6 or 7 streams and totally enjoyed all the stream crossings along with the changing scenery which included a number of "tree tunnels". There were also lots of songbirds and wildflowers. The trail is a gradual, sloping grade with the exception of the first 1/2 mile, which is moderately steep.....very doable when taken at a comfortable pace. There is also an option to view a stunning waterfall on an adjacent trail. Please keep my phone number handy, 828-273-5567, in case we have trouble hooking up.
