Losing Alone. Winning Together? Community Hedge Fund Portfolio Lab
Details
New to forex? We’ll explain equity curves, baskets and drawdown in plain English. No coding experience needed.
One losing chart. One very different portfolio. What changed?
Before you throw away a trading strategy, see what happens when you stop judging it on a single instrument.
This Wednesday, our Community Hedge Fund Strategy of the Week takes a strategy that loses on one instrument and examines its profitable combined backtest across a basket. We’ll put the individual equity curves beside the portfolio curve—and look just as closely at the drawdowns.

SEE THE DIFFERENCE LIVE
- Before: the single-instrument result you might have rejected.
- After: the same strategy rules across a basket, with the combined curve revealed.
- Below the headline profit: how deep the losses get, how long recovery takes, and whether the instruments struggle together.
- The reality check: equal starting capital, allocation, costs, correlation and unseen data. Is this useful diversification—or a flattering backtest?
Leave with a better question than “Is this strategy profitable?”
Ask: “What does this strategy contribute to the portfolio?” Bring your questions and challenge the comparison in live Q&A. No coding required; you’re welcome to watch.

About the chart: the promotional illustration uses invented data: single instrument −10.0%, five-instrument basket +18.4%; maximum drawdown 11.4% versus 2.4%. Both start with the same total capital; the basket allocates 20% to each instrument, including the losing one, without rebalancing. Costs are excluded. These are teaching illustrations, not the actual strategy’s results or a forecast. A basket is not an automatic cure for an unprofitable strategy.
