Hey friends 👋, we’re coming with a evening of philosophy, language, and reflection in Lisbon!
Topic: Interpreting “悟 wù” / Enlighten
In this session, we’ll begin with the etymology of the Chinese character “悟” (wù) — meaning to awaken, to understand, or to reach insight — and extend our reflection to the philosophical idea of enlightenment.
What does it mean to be “enlightened”?
Is it epistemological, psychological, spiritual, or rational?
Is awakening a moment of inner realization, or the result of external revelation?
We’ll also explore how 悟 resonates with other philosophical traditions:
The Phoenix Nirvana and rebirth
The Enlightenment and rational criticism
The unity of knowledge and action in Chinese philosophy
The dialogue between reason, intuition, and transcendence
