BULL IN A CHINA SHOP - A LESBIAN LOVE STORY - SOLD OUT
Details
Inspired by the real letters between Mary Woolley and Jeannette Marks spanning from 1899 to 1937, this fast-paced comedy asks: What is revolution? What does it mean to be at odds with the world? How do we fulfill our potential? And how the hell do we grow old together?
Critic's Pick! "A pugnacious, tender and gloriously funny play.....passionate, joyous and radiant with life!" - The New York Times
This fast paced contemporary comedy explores the real-life romance and revolutionary careers of Mary Woolley and Jeanette Marks. Spanning nearly 40 years (1899-1937), the story is inspired by actual love letters between the two women. The play follows Woolley, a radical feminist, who became president of Mount Holyoke College in 1901, as she attempts to reform the institution from a "seminary for pious wives" into a university where women's education is valued on its own merit.
The strain on the relationship is examined as the couple deals with their own political ambitions and radical stances as well as the societal pressures of living as a lesbian couple in the early 20th century.
