## Fort Worth Science Café is Back with a Big Event!

Join us for an evening with world-renowned biologist, Dr. Tyrone Hayes to learn about his research which seeks to understand how a common pesticide impacts amphibian populations. This event is being hosted by the TCU Biology Department, but Fort Worth Science Café members will have reserved seating at the event and will be able to join Dr. Hayes after his presentation for an informal discussion over snacks and drinks.

## What to expect

The event will begin promptly at 6PM, so group members should arrive 20-25 min early to park (free visitor parking is available in the TCU visitor lot located at the corner of West Lowden Street and Lubbock Avenue), walk to Moudy Hall (located at the corner of Cantey Street and South University Drive), and find the Fort Worth Science Café reserved seating section.

The event will begin promptly at 6PM and will continue until 7/7:30. After the event, we'll head to Dutch's (located just a few blocks away near the corner of South University Drive and West Bowie Street) for the chance to chat with Dr. Hayes about his work in a more informal setting.

Reserved seating and opportunity to attend the informal gather with Dr. Hayes is limited to 16 group members.

## What is the talk about?

Rachel Carson's groundbreaking 1962 book "Silent Spring" brought to our attention the unintended environmental harm caused by the indiscriminate use of pesticides, including DDT. Though we have made substantial strides in the realm of chemical regulation since that time, pesticide use continues to have unintended environmental consequences. Join us for a free public lecture delivered by one of the nation's leading experts on the environmental effects of agrichemicals, Dr. Tyrone Hayes.

## Who is the speaker?

Dr. Tyrone Hayes[(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tyrone_Hayes)](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tyrone_Hayes), Professor of Integrative Biology at UC Berkeley and recent inductee to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, is a world-renowned expert on the impacts of pesticides on amphibian populations. Dr. Hayes studies the effects of hormone-disrupting chemicals on amphibians and is best known for his seminal work showing the impacts of a commonly-used herbicide on amphibian populations. Dr. Hayes will discuss his work and also its implications for not only amphibian populations, but also humans.
