About us
Are you interested in TED talks, Radiolab, Hidden Brain, Ologies and other science related media? The Fort Worth Women's Science Society is welcoming dynamic women who enjoy an engaging group of friends! Our goal is be a diverse group of folks meeting to have informed and thoughtful discussions on science-based media. We strive to learn from others, listen to various viewpoints and bond over the complexities of life and science. No question, idea, or quandary is too abstract. We strive to suck the marrow out of life! If you want to expand your mind, challenge perspectives, and have ideas of your own worth spreading, then this is the group for you. Our members possess degrees in science or a passion for critical thinking. We typically meet at Winehaus. Each month a host member will pick a podcast of their choice and we share in an engaging discussion relating to the topic. We ask that each member listen to the assigned media and be prepared to thrash out viewpoints.

Titrating Our Tastebuds
Winehaus, 1628 Park Place Ave, Fort Worth, TX, USEver wondered why a pinch of salt makes caramel taste sweeter or food tastes dull when you have a cold? It’s a complex dance of molecular biology and organic chemistry.
Join us for our next meetup as we dive deep into the fascinating world of gustatory perception and flavor chemistry. We’re moving beyond the "tongue map" you learned in grade school to explore how our brains actually build the experience of flavor.
We will be discussing the following videos which are combined in this YouTube playlist:
- Taste & Smell: Crash Course Anatomy & Physiology (10.5 min)
- Everything I Thought I Knew About Flavor Was Wrong (21 min)
- This 52 minute Video Will Change How You Think About Salt (52 min)
- Does Carbonation Have a Taste? (31 min)
Bonus: Why is Food Chemistry Important For Us? (7 min)
