What we're about
The Fort Collins Fire Spinners are a diverse group of people who are involved in the Dance of Fire. It includes people at many skill levels from Professional to Beginner and all are welcome.
Fire spinning skills include Fire Poi and Fire Staff, but between us we have many different fire toys and props that we play with on a regular basis. And then there is the occasional Fire Breathing, Pyrotechnics, Fire Wire and much more...:>)
More broadly, we practice a wide spectrum of Flow Arts...where we spin our toys and props through different planes and dimensions, immersed in a rhythmic flow that is both created by us but also existing in the greater universe and independent of us. Depending on the person, it can be magickal, spiritual, physical and certainly at least an amazing workout!
We have a special relationship with the fire troupe Fire Gate ( https://www.facebook.com/FireGatePerformers ). Your Host ,Renard is a core member of this group and various other Meetup members occasionally perform at Festivals and other events as members of the Fire Gate troupe, or else on their own or with some other subgroup of us.
We also have an alliance with the Fort Collins Hoop Circle (https://www.facebook.com/groups/22776905114... (https://www.facebook.com/groups/227769051144/)) with members of the Circle and this Meetup often attending each others events and work-out sessions. Hoopers come in Regular, Electronic and Extra Crispy variations.
There are also a good number of this Meetup's members who own and play with LED props - poi, staff, hoop being the primary LED toys people use.
Meetups can be called by any member. Please be specific about the date, the exact time it starts and ends and exactly where it will happen (including where within a Park you will be meeting)
Beyond the various Practice and Workout Meetups, we usually have a monthly Fire Jam every month except during the Summer, when there is usually a Larimer County Fire Ban in place. Fire Jams are relatively low ego events where usually about 15-30 spinners come together throughout the night and practice and perform with different Fire and LED props. If you ask nicely and get specific permission, you can often get to play and experiment with some of the various fire props.
We always have an informal Drum Group and various other instruments playing live music for the dancers. Most people participate in some way, though we also invite those who just want to come and observe and enjoy the show. As monthly Fire Jams go on throughout the Winter, we usually have a large campfire (and a smaller one for the drummers). Donations of firewood are heartily encouraged and appreciated!
You are also encouraged to bring some finger food snacks and drinks for yourself and others. Spinning fire can be thirsty high calorie burning work! There are always a couple of tables available for snacks and drinks.
There is NO alcohol allowed on the premises of the Fire Jam. No exceptions. Fire Jams happen at your host's home. Being part of the Fire Community creates a special bond of trust and friendship. All members/guests are asked to keep an eye out and protect my home and the Fire Jam site from bad vibes and behavior and you should be proactive in mentioning any safety concerns or sketchy behavior. We love dogs, but they are not welcome at Fire Jams, so please don't bring them.
Monthly Fire Jams will be announced here as a Meetup Event. There is also a Fire Jam Email List and I suggest you send me your email address and get on that list. My email is email@example.com. We also always make a FaceBook Event Page and pictures from events usually end up there and on the FireGate page.
If you attend any Fort Collins Fire Spinner Meetup Event or Fire Jam, you may very well have pictures taken of you and you have to accept that as part of attendance without compensation or remorse...:>).
Be well and get with the Flow

You don't have to be a performer, or want to be a performer. Poi is a great way to relax, get a good workout, or just spin with friends!
