FORVM Photo Walk #5: Ajuda

Details

We’re not here to walk through museums.
We’re not here for royalty, really.

We’re here for what happens after a city burns.

Ajuda began as an escape.
After the earthquake of 1755, Lisbon’s royal court fled here, uphill from the smoke and water.
They built tents, then wooden halls, then a palace they never really finished.
But people stayed. Farmers, servants, stone workers. A neighborhood formed around the empty throne.

Ajuda is still shaped by that moment — the idea of a temporary place that became permanent.
There are signs of power, but they’re soft. Worn. Tired.
There’s grandeur — but it’s quiet now.

We’ll walk through the ruins of ambition, the edges of formality, and the backstreets that history forgot to clean up.
We won’t look for monuments. We’ll look for memory.

### 📍 Structure:

🟡 This is not a guided tour. You’ll receive a map and a story prompt.
🟡 You’ll walk in small teams, discovering as you go.
🟡 The walk lasts about 1 hour and ends somewhere local for a drink and sharing.
🟡 All cameras welcome: phones, film, digital, whatever sees.
🟡 No content farming. No photoshoots. Just presence, weight, and detail.

Important: Send Us One Photo After the Walk

Every participant will send one photo after each FORVM Photo Walk — based on the theme of the day.

It doesn’t have to be perfect. It just has to say something.
A texture. A shadow. A moment. Your perspective.

Why?
Because at the end of the year, we’re putting together a FORVM exhibition — and we’ll be selecting our favorite shots from across all the walks.

So whether you’re a pro or just snapping on your phone — take the walk seriously. Notice things. Frame them. Capture them.
Then send us one image after the walk (you’ll get a reminder and an upload link).

Let’s build Lisbon’s story — one photo at a time.

Let’s walk uphill into the past.
Let’s photograph the places that stayed after the plan fell apart.
