FORVM Photo Quest #2: Alfama

Details

Once you finish a quest, you receive a free ticket to the next one.

Alfama is Lisbon’s most recycled myth.
A maze of fado, tiles, narrow stairs.
It sells itself as “authentic.”
But if you slow down, you’ll see the other layers:
ruins beneath plaster, lives erased, houses rebuilt and re-sold.
This was once the heart of Moorish Lisbon, then of poverty, then of resistance.
Now it’s Airbnb country.

On this walk, you won’t just wander.
You’ll chase clues, match old photos, and notice what tourist eyes skip.

You’ll be asked: whose voices echo in these streets?
Who got silenced when the story was simplified?
What survives in cracks, in tiles, in shadows of walls?

We’re not photographing charm.
We’re photographing memory.

📍 Structure
🟡 This is not a guided tour. You’ll receive a map with clues, prompts, and old photos.
🟡 You’ll walk in small teams, uncovering the answers as you go.
🟡 Each stop has a task: find, photograph, or decode something.
🟡 The walk lasts about 1 hour and ends somewhere local for a drink and sharing.
🟡 All cameras welcome: phones, film, digital — whatever sees.
🟡 At the end, we’ll gather, compare findings, and declare the “quest champions.”

Let’s walk where Lisbon remembers — and forgets.
Let’s take pictures like questions, not postcards.
