Habitat.SH is an Application Automation tool that aims to make it easy, safe, and fast to build, deploy, and manage applications.

From build dependencies, runtime dependencies, dynamic configuration, and service discovery etc, Habitat packages the automation with the application instead of relying on an underlying platform.

Habitat components are
. plan and build system
. a supervisor
. an HTTP interface on that supervisor to report package status
. a depot
. a communication model for disseminating rumors through a supervisor ring
. and additional service components.

Why Habitat ?

Automation that travels with the app. Habitat allows any app to be independent of any particular infrastructure environment, like containers or PaaS.

Pre-requisites
A laptop running 64-bit Linux (preferably ArchLinux) will be very helpful.

Alternatively, on your Mac/Windows laptop you may setup a

• ArchLinux Vagrant box image

• ArchLinux Docker image

• ArchLinux Bare metal install
