Phil Chester is a bassist, trombonist, composer, teacher, and arranger. He began playing trombone when he was 9 and picked up bass guitar when he was 14. It was at this time he started performing with a handful of bands covering a broad spectrum of genres. His early influences were wide-ranging, including classic rock and jazz fusion. In 2006 he was introduced to the upright bass through his high school's jazz combo and pit orchestra.

In 2012 he graduated from DePaul University with a Bachelor's Degree in Jazz Studies. Since then he has contributed and collaborated with numerous ensembles and local and international artists of a multitude of genres in the Chicagoland and surrounding area. Phil is currently involved with several active performing groups and provides studio bass tracking for Thirdfire Records and Bird Garden Studios. As a passionate musician, Phil teaches in order to help share and foster a love for music. He began teaching in 2017. Phil is inspired by players of all instruments and artists of all mediums.
