Dreams, Symbols & the Inner Grove: Ghostlights 1 Year Gathering
Details
The Ghostlights Collective is one year old!
To mark it, we’ll be doing a slightly different kind of gathering: part dream circle, part creative reflection, part anniversary threshold.
New people are very welcome. You do not need to have been to Ghostlights before, or know anyone in the group. This is intended as both a celebration of the first year and an open invitation into the next one.
The theme is dreams, symbols and the inner grove.
By “symbols”, I don’t mean fixed meanings from a dream dictionary. I mean the images that seem to follow us around: animals, doors, forests, water, fire, houses, paths, rooms, moons, birds, masks, keys, old places, strange moods, half-remembered dreams, and recurring thoughts.
The quiet question for the evening is:
What is trying to wake up in us?
We’ll talk about dreams, lucid dreaming, recurring images, active imagination, nature, and the strange inner landscapes that appear when we slow down enough to notice them. I’ve been reading Dreaming Yourself Awake, so lucid dreaming may be part of the conversation too: not as a technical class, but as a way of thinking about awareness, imagination, and the borderland between sleep and waking life.
The idea of the “inner grove” is simple: an imagined place within ourselves where something quieter, older, and more instinctive can be heard.
This won’t be a formal meditation class, therapy session, or polished wellness workshop. It will be a calm Ghostlights-style evening with discussion, reflection, optional writing or sketching, and a small anniversary ritual.
As always, nothing is compulsory. You do not need to be good at meditation, writing, drawing, dreamwork, or sharing. You can take part quietly. Listening counts.
What we may do:
• Arrive and settle
A gentle start, no pressure, no awkward performance.
• Opening reflection
A short reflection on one year of Ghostlights, returning from retreat, dreams, symbols, and what it means to create a small space for meaning in the city.
• Dreams, lucid dreaming and recurring images
A relaxed conversation about dreams, dream signs, strange images, repeated places, inner landscapes, and the symbols that keep appearing in our lives, art, writing, memories, or imagination.
• Short grounding/meditation
A simple pause to arrive in the room and notice what image, feeling, word, or mood comes up.
• Writing or sketching
A quiet creative exercise using prompts such as:
- What image keeps returning to me lately?
- If my inner life was a place, what would it look like?
- What part of me needs renewal?
- What dream, animal, path, doorway, plant, room, or symbol is asking for attention?
- What do I want more of in the months ahead?
• The Dream Seed
For the anniversary, everyone will write one word, image, or intention they want to carry forward. It might be something like rest, courage, belonging, voice, roots, threshold, softness, fire, return, or something completely your own. You can keep it private, share it, or simply fold it away.
• Optional outdoor element
If the weather is decent, we may take a slow walk to a nearby park. Nothing elaborate: just trees, grass, air, birds, and a quiet moment outside. Shoes off on the grass if you want to, fully optional. A small way of stepping out of the room and marking the next year of Ghostlights with the body, not just the mind.
• Optional drink or meal after
Afterwards, anyone who wants to can stay for a coffee, soft drink, pint, or relaxed meal nearby to mark one year of the group.
• You might bring, optional:
🌙 A dream, image, symbol, or recurring thought you’ve been carrying
🌿 A notebook or sketchbook
📖 A short poem, passage, or line that feels relevant
🍃 Something comfortable if we sit outside
🕯️ Or simply yourself, curious and reflective
