Dreaming the Inner Grove: Ghostlights 1 Year Anniversary
Details
The Ghostlights Collective is one year old!
For this anniversary gathering, we’ll do something gentle, reflective, and slightly unusual: a retreat-style session exploring dreams, symbols, active imagination, meditation, nature, and renewal.
After coming back from a meditation retreat, I’ve been thinking about how much of life gets buried under noise: work, screens, city life, social pressure, restless thoughts, and the constant demand to keep moving.
This session is a small pause from that.
It is not a formal meditation class, therapy session, or polished wellness workshop. It is more of a quiet symbolic retreat: a space to slow down, listen inwardly, and explore the images, dreams, moods, and half-hidden feelings that appear when we stop rushing.
We’ll use meditation, discussion, sketching or free writing, and active imagination as ways of exploring the inner life. I’ve also been reading Dreaming Yourself Awake, so lucid dreaming and dream symbols may form part of the conversation too.
If the weather is kind, we may also go to a nearby park for a gentle outdoor element: a mindful walk, sitting or lying on the grass, listening for birds, noticing trees and natural symbols, or simply taking a quiet moment outside.
Nothing too intense or awkward, just a chance to reconnect with the body, the season, and the living world around us.
As always with Ghostlights, nothing is compulsory. You don’t need to be good at writing, drawing, meditation, or sharing. You can take part quietly if you prefer.
This will be part anniversary gathering, part reflective workshop, part small rite of renewal. Afterwards, for anyone who wants to stay, we may go for a coffee, drink, or relaxed meal nearby to mark one year of Ghostlights.
What to expect:
A calm, thoughtful session exploring dreams, symbols, meditation, active imagination, nature, and renewal.
Together we’ll reflect on the idea of the “inner grove”: an imagined or symbolic place within ourselves where something quieter, older, and more instinctive can be heard.
There may be a short meditation, a relaxed discussion around dreams and inner symbols, sketching or free writing, and possibly a gentle wander outdoors if the weather is decent.
There is no pressure to perform, share, or be especially spiritual. You can treat the session as ritual, psychology, creativity, reflection, or simply a quiet pause from the city.
Possible structure:
Arrive and settle.
A gentle start, hellos, and time to arrive without pressure.
Opening reflection.
One year of Ghostlights, returning from retreat, slowing down, dreams, symbols, and the idea of the inner grove.
Short meditation / grounding.
A simple guided pause to arrive in the room and notice what images, feelings, or symbols come up.
Dreams, symbols and active imagination.
A relaxed group conversation around dreams, lucid dreaming, recurring images, nature symbols, and what the inner life might be trying to show us.
Sketching / free writing.
A quiet creative exercise using prompts such as:
What symbol keeps appearing in my life at the moment?
What part of me needs renewal?
If my inner life was a place, what would it look like?
What dream, animal, plant, path, doorway, or image is calling to me?
Optional outdoor element.
If the weather is decent, we may take a slow walk to a nearby park, sit on the grass, notice trees, birds, light, weather, and whatever small symbols the world offers up. Shoes off on the grass optional, not mandatory.
Closing ritual / anniversary moment.
Everyone writes one word they want to carry into the next year of Ghostlights. It might be something like: rest, courage, belonging, voice, roots, threshold, softness, fire, return.
Optional coffee, drink, or meal after
A relaxed ending for anyone who wants to stay around afterwards and mark one year of the group.
You might bring, optional:
🌿 A notebook or sketchbook
🌙 A dream, image, symbol, or recurring thought you’ve been carrying
🍃 Something comfortable if we sit outside
📖 A short poem, passage, or line that feels relevant
🕯️ Or simply yourself, curious and reflective
