Last-minute travellers who would like to join us for a 4-day hiking tour over the public holiday and long weekend are warmly invited.
There are still seats available in one car and you can share cost with the driver. The rest of us travels via train, starting on 19 June at 6:14, arrival at 10:13 in Naumburg - return journey on 22 June at 19:08 until 22:36 back in Frankfurt.
We have booked an old wine house in the middle of nature in Kleinjena - 5 km from Naumburg. There is a sleeping loft in the attic with 7 sleeping places and a room for 2 people. Mattresses/bed loungers and bedding are provided. The historic houses is very idyllic, with kitchen, garden and vineyards all around. The scenic Todestäler valleys with wild horses and orchid trails are right on our doorstep. Per night and per person we pay 29 Euro.
The plan is to visit the medieval centre of Naumburg and its cathedral, hike the valleys of the Unstrut and Saale rivers, see castles such as Rudelsburg, Saaleck, Dornburg castles, Gosseck Castle and the oldest known solar observatory. We may also spend a day paddling on the Saale and Unstrut rivers and visit Nebra and the famous historic sky disc (one of the most important archaeological finds of the past century. It shows the world’s oldest concrete depiction of astronomical phenomena.) For the evenings, we will go shopping and barbecuing and perhaps take part in a night guard tour in the old town of Freyburg, where a medieval music festival is also taking place at the time.
