These days mark the end of WW II 80 years ago. Germany, which started the war, was affected longer by the consequences. One was the division into zones and later de-facto two countries. We will see the former border between East and West Germany with the fence and more to keep the people from crossing the border. We also see former US barracks directly on the other side with some historic artifacts. Then we hike through the Rhön along a creek until we reach Hühnfeld. This is the city where the constructor of the first computer of the world, Konrad Zuse lived. We walk through the city park, where we will see a monument of him, then the historic center, until we reach the train station.
We meet in Fra Hbf at 9:15 at the beginning of platform 5 for RE 50 departing at 9:26. A Deutschlandticket or RMV annual ticket is recommended, but you can also buy a single day ticket.
The distance is ca. 17 km. Have a look at the route and elevation in the photos section. Bring beverages & food for the way with you.
