What we’re about
The purpose of the Fredericksburg Anxiety Meetup is to provide a safe and supportive environment for individuals experiencing disordered anxiety symptoms to connect with others, share their experiences, and learn coping strategies. Meetings will focus on group discussion, but will also have time for working on our challenges through strength based, mindfulness, and cognitive behavioral techniques.
The Fredericksburg Anxiety Meetup Group is not intended as a substitute for professional therapeutic counseling. If you are in crisis please contact a certified therapist, counselor, psychologist, or psychiatrist. If you are experiencing an emergency please text 988 or call 911.
The following rules will be enforced at every meeting and are intended to create a safe, respectful, and productive environment for all members.
1. Confidentiality. All group meetings are strictly confidential and by attending you agree to not share outside of group.
2. Stay on Topic. No politics, polarizing discussion, or topics outside of mental health and anxiety issues.
3. Do not tell other people what to do. Focus on your own experiences and avoid giving unsolicited advice or trying to fix other’s problems. Use “I” statements or “This is what helped me”.
4. Be Respectful. Members are expected to be respectful, empathetic, avoid interrupting, actively listen, and non-judgmental. Allow time for everyone to share.
5. Be assertive. Ask that your boundaries are respected.
6. Active participation. Share as you are able. If you are uncomfortable sharing you may pass to another person.
