FREE - SUMMER HIKE - Chichester to West Wittering and Swim?!

Details

This is a 17 kms approx., linear route that takes us from the New Lipchis Way along the abandoned Chichester Canal to the boatyards at Birdham then, via creeks, saltmarsh and mudflats, continues to the mouth of Chichester Harbour by West Wittering beach. The route is rich in wildlife, especially dragonflies by the canal and waders on the mudflats.

If you are looking for country walking and exploring the countryside surroundings of the Cathedral city of West Sussex then this is a good opportunity which can end with a nice swim at West Wittering beach followed by a pub visit in Chichester

We will be starting from Chichester Railway Station, PO19 8DN. We will finish the walk at West Wittering and then take the bus either No 52 or 53 from West Wittering to Chichester to head back to the train station.

The walk will be at a medium to relaxed pace and is expected to finish by 5.30pm and we can go to a pub when we finish. This is expected to be mostly flat with maybe an occasional hill and would suit anyone. However, please make sure to wear hiking boots/shoes since it may be slippery at parts, and carry at least 1 liter of water and packed lunch. The walk is completely free. You need good hiking shoes, a packed lunch, and a good spirit. This is mostly a flat walk and will be medium paced.

You are responsible for your own safety and for making sure that your actions don’t damage the people, animals, or environment around you.
Please be respectful to fellow walkers.

At the end of the walk, we will go to a pub close to the Chichester Train station.
