📍 Meet Outside Berwick (Sussex) Train Station
This is a 13 to 15-mile Circular Hike.
Established in 2018, the Cuckmere Pilgrim Path runs through some of the finest landscapes in the South Downs National Park.
We’ll hike from Berwick and through Alciston, Selmeston, and across the Cuckmere River, and via Arlington, Wilmington, and Lullington.
This area sits between Lewes and Eastbourne, centring around the charming medieval market town of Alfriston, which lies on the Cuckmere River.
🌄 Highlights Along the Way
• The spectacular viewpoint on the South Downs ridge above the iconic Long Man of Wilmington
• A ridge-top section with wide sweeping views
• A descent past Lullington Church back towards Alfriston
• Classic South Downs scenery: rolling chalk hills, open countryside and peaceful valleys
• A route dotted with historic churches and villages
⚠️ Group Guidelines (Important)
- Please stay with or behind the hike leader at all times.
- You must be able to see the person in front of you at all times — the route has many turns, and it’s easy to get separated.
- The terrain can be muddy, slippery and uneven in winter. Proper hiking boots are essential.
- Carry water, food, rain gear, and a torch — daylight is short in February.
- The hike is at a medium/fitness pace.
- This is a voluntary activity; you are responsible for your own safety. The organiser does not accept any risk or liability.
- Repeated no-shows may lead to removal from the group.
- Please read the About Us section before signing up:
