With the clocks springing forward around the end of March, it’s the perfect moment to launch our evening hikes—and what better place to start than the iconic Box Hill. This moderately challenging trail (around 8–10 km only due to sunset at 8 pm) winds through one of the most scenic stretches of the North Downs, offering sweeping views, rolling hills, and pockets of rich wildlife. Keep an eye out for the Adonis blue butterfly, the delicate bee orchid, and the changing colours of the English countryside as the sun dips.

We’ll meet at Box Hill & Westhumble Train Station at 17:30. Box Hill is a proper hilly adventure, so please come prepared with sturdy hiking boots/shoes, at least 1 litre of water, and a torch for the later part of the walk. As always, the hike is completely free.

Parking:
You can use the station car park (limited spaces), the Burford Hotel car park, or the free roadside spots leading to the Stepping Stones Pub. Some people have also been able to park at the pub if they mention they’ll be returning for a drink—though please check with them beforehand.
We’ll keep a medium pace, aiming to finish around 20:00 at the Stepping Stones Pub for a well-earned drink.

Group etiquette:
Please stay with or behind the hike leader—this helps keep the group together, maintain a steady pace, and ensure everyone can enjoy the walk safely. Be mindful of your surroundings and respectful to fellow walkers, wildlife, and the environment.

This is a group event with route guidance only—no service is provided, and no risk is assumed or inferred by the organiser. Participation is entirely voluntary. Please read the “About Us” section before signing up:

The walk is free, the route will be guided, and all you need is: good hiking shoes, a litre of water, a torch, and a good spirit.
