Details

Some of the best stories are told from a Bar Stool. And we want to hear yours!

Have a story you always tell a new stranger or old friend? We want to hear it!

Have a story people always ask you to retell? We want to hear it!

Have a story you'd like to one day tell on a stage, but it's not quite stage-worthy yet (or maybe ever)? We want to hear it!

Your stories, whatever they may be, are what makes you you...and we want to hear them!

Bar Stories Live on Stage is your chance to stand (or, more appropriately, sit) in front of an audience and tell that story you’ve been sharing for years…or something that’s brand new!

All stories, in all their forms and various stages of creation, are welcome! They don’t have to be polished, they don’t have to be complete, they don’t have to have a beginning, middle, and end, a moral, or even a lesson learned. If it happened to you and it’s a story you tell, it’s a story we want to hear!

And best of all, they can be about any topic you’d like…seriously, you pick the topic, you guide the show!

It can be just an anecdote, or a romp, it doesn’t need to have an established beginning, middle, and end. It doesn’t even need to have a moral! Workshop an idea you’ve been thinking of, or just share a fun little anecdote that might not otherwise have a chance to see a storytelling stage. We welcome it all!

Local storyteller and frequent barstool inhabitant, Nick Vega will serve as host, and will sit on stage with you, playing the role of that guy you say “lemme tell you a story” to, whether that be an old friend or a new stranger!

How it Works:
Your host Nick will welcome the crowd and let you know the topics your four featured storytellers have selected. These topics are meant to help inspire your stories, but you don’t have to use them.

He'll start things off by telling a story of his own, and then invite up the first featured storyteller of the night. You’ll sit on the stage together (on bar stools, of course) and you’ll share your story, the same as if you were sitting at a bar. He might ask questions ask questions to get you to elaborate or he might sit silent as your tale unfolds. And he will invite the audience to interact. The whole thing would sound just as it would if you were sitting at a bar, just having a conversation.

When the storyteller has exhausted their story, your host will ask if anyone has a similar experience, or a story more directly related to the one we just heard. If anyone raises their hand, they’ll be invited up next to share their story. Storytellers can tell more than one story a night.

This process will repeat until we run out of stories, or we run out of time. It’ll work like karaoke that way...or a wonderful conversation!

About the stories:
All the things professional storytelling coaches and workshops tell you not to do—to an extent—are welcome here (though, we’re not going to be screaming our insecurities into a microphone).

No lessons need to have been learned, no morals, no growth…and no, they don’t need to be set in a bar!

Anecdotes, romps, big-fish stories...they're all okay, even welcome!

Oh, and notes are okay! We want you to be as comfortable as possible. We prefer all stories to be told, and not read, but if glancing down at some reminders helps you along, please feel free to utilize whatever works for you!

Rules are not a big part of this experience, other than if there are a lot of names signed up, we'll ask you to be mindful of time, and respect for your fellow humans is expected. We're here to lift others up, not put them down. ‘Nuff said.
