What we’re about
👋 Welcome to Our Hiking Group!
Escape the city and explore Britain’s beautiful countryside with a friendly community of nature lovers. Whether you are an experienced hiker or taking your first steps on the trail, you will find fresh air, adventure, and good company here.
🌱 About Us
Founded in April 2025, we are a lively group of hikers who enjoy discovering new routes, embracing fresh air, and turning every outing into a shared adventure. Hiking is about more than distance. It is about people, good conversations, and the joy of being outdoors. We step away from busy routines and reconnect with what matters most: nature, friendly faces, and a sense of belonging. Everyone is welcome, from beginners to seasoned hikers, as long as the chosen event matches your fitness level.
🤝 How We’re Run
A small team of experienced volunteer hikers runs the group. We research, plan, design, and guide our walks as peers rather than professionals, using our leadership and hiking experience to create enjoyable and safe outings for everyone.
✅ Who Can Join
Adults aged 21 and over are welcome. Children and pets are not permitted. Our routes can be long and challenging, and animals may create unpredictable situations that affect group safety.
💰 Cost
All hikes are free. Occasionally we organise activities that require a deposit for transport, hotels, or restaurants. Any money collected goes directly toward the booking and is never taken as profit.
💪 Fitness and Walk Difficulty
We explore trails across London and the surrounding counties, from scenic woodlands to rolling hills (and the occasional muddy field!). Our hikes typically range from 20 to 25 km, with moderate or steep climbs, and an average pace of 4.5 to 5.5 km per hour. These are not slow or casual walks and require a reasonable level of fitness and confidence on varied terrain.
🗺️ Hike Difficulty Levels
- Easy: up to 12 km, mostly flat
- Easy/Moderate: up to 15 km, some slopes
- Moderate: up to 20 km, mixed terrain, moderate fitness
- Moderate/Strenuous: up to 30 km, steep sections, experienced hikers
- Strenuous: 30+ km, rough terrain, advanced hikers
- 👉 Full grading reference available HERE.
👨👩👧👦 Travel
Most hikes are accessible by rail, and you will need to purchase your own ticket. When possible, we may coordinate group options such as Southern Railway DaySave tickets (£13 advance, same-train travel). Network Railcards may reduce costs.
📍 Meeting Points
Some hikes offer two meeting options: a London station for group travel or the official starting point.
🎒 What to Bring
- Packed lunch, snacks, and at least 2L water
Sturdy boots, layers, and waterproofs
Sun protection
Personal medication, basic first aid, and blister plasters
Optional walking poles
Fully charged phone and head torch
👣 Group Size and Staying Together
Group sizes may range from 25 to 60 people. Each hike has one main leader, and additional helpers may be available depending on attendance. A dedicated back marker is not always present, so please keep others in sight and avoid moving too far ahead or falling too far behind. We pause at junctions to regroup and ensure everyone stays connected.
💬 Suggestions and Feedback
We welcome feedback on how we can improve our events. Speak with an organiser or leave constructive comments in the event feedback section. We review all feedback and use it to shape future hikes.
🌿 Safety and Responsibility
Your safety is your responsibility. Hiking involves risks such as weather, terrain, and injury. Be honest about your fitness, bring appropriate kit, and prepare for changing conditions.
Carry sufficient food and water, keep your phone charged, and download offline maps. Personal accident insurance is your responsibility. Organisers may decline participation if safety is at risk.
🩺 Illness Policy
Do not attend if you are unwell or recovering. Join again once fully recovered so you can enjoy the walk safely.

- We aim to create a respectful, enjoyable space for all.

🧭 Navigation
Read event details carefully and bring a map, GPS, or offline app. Inform the organiser if you leave the group. Share an emergency contact with someone you trust.

FREE HIKE 20km | Hills and Heathlands: The Box Hill Challenge
Boxhill and Westhumble station, Westhumble Street, Boxhill, Dorking, GB📈 Grade: 🥾🥾🥾🥾 Level 4/5 – Challenging terrain with steep climbs and descents
Set in the heart of the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, this challenging circular hike explores some of southern England’s most inspiring landscapes. The route links two of the region’s finest viewpoints, Box Hill and Headley Heath, offering steep climbs, wooded valleys, and sweeping vistas across the North Downs.
The walk begins with an immediate ascent up Box Hill, made famous by John Keats, who is said to have drawn poetic inspiration from its tranquil beauty. The climb is demanding, but the reward is a breathtaking panorama over the River Mole and the rolling countryside beyond. At the summit, pause to imagine Jane Austen’s Emma strolling these very slopes. Box Hill plays a memorable role in her novel as the setting for a pivotal picnic scene.
From here, the route dips into shaded woodland trails and open chalk grasslands. The undulating terrain keeps the legs working and the heart rate high, with several steep ascents and descents as you make your way toward Headley Heath.
The return to Box Hill follows winding forest paths and ridge-top tracks, offering yet more spectacular views and a real sense of accomplishment by the end.
Whether you’re here for the physical challenge or to walk in the footsteps of literary greats, this route captures the essence of the Surrey Hills AONB, steep, scenic, and steeped in history.
We’ll finish with an optional pub stop to relax, rest our legs, and celebrate conquering this challenging hike before heading home.
