📕ABOUT:
This is the one we wait all year for 😃!
- A grand circular from Tring station that takes in everything the Chilterns has to offer: the dramatic chalk escarpment of the Ridgeway, the summit of Ivinghoe Beacon with its Iron Age hill fort, the towering Bridgewater Monument for lunch at the halfway mark, then a deep exploration of the southern Ashridge Estate through ancient beech woodland, Frithsden Beeches and rolling chalk downland before looping back to Tring through quiet field paths.
- The timing is deliberate! 😁Early May is peak bluebell 🪻season at Ashridge Estate and the woodland sections on the return leg through the southern estate should be carpeted in violet-blue beneath ancient beech canopy.

⭐️HIGHLIGHTS:
- 🏔️ Ivinghoe Beacon — 233 m summit with sweeping views across multiple counties. Site of an Iron Age hill fort and the start/end point of the Ridgeway National Trail. On a clear day you can see the Whipsnade White Lion chalk figure on the hillside opposite.
- 🌿 The Ridgeway — Britain’s oldest road. A spectacular open chalk ridge walk with big skies and long views across the Vale of Aylesbury.
- 🏛️ Bridgewater Monument (Halfway) — 108 ft column built in 1832 in honour of the Duke of Bridgewater. Open on weekends in May — 172 steps to the top for a bird’s-eye view of the estate (optional!). NT Visitor Centre café and toilets here. This is our lunch stop.
- 🪻 Southern Ashridge Woodland & Bluebells — the afternoon leg takes us through the quieter, deeper parts of the Ashridge Estate. Ancient beech and oak woodland, carpets of bluebells in the afternoon light, and far fewer people than the northern sections.
- 🌳 Frithsden Beeches — magnificent ancient pollarded beeches in the southern reaches of the estate. A hidden gem even many Ashridge regulars never reach.
- 🦌 Ashridge Estate — 5,000 acres of beech and oak managed by the National Trust. The full circuit gives you both the dramatic open northern ridges and the intimate, enclosed southern woodland.

🚨RSVP & ATTENDANCE:
RSVP only if you plan to attend. Please cancel as early as possible if you can no longer make it so others can join. A no-show means you RSVPed but did not attend or cancelled just before or after the start time. Repeated no-shows or late cancellations without a valid reason may lead to removal. Reliable regulars who end up on a waitlist may message the host for priority consideration.
——
☯️STAYING TOGETHER:
A dedicated back marker is not always present, so please keep others in sight and avoid moving too far ahead or falling too far behind. Faster walkers should wait at junctions. The hike leader will pause at key points to regroup and reduce the chance of anyone becoming separated from the group.
