πABOUT
Step back in time as we follow a forgotten railway line through the Hertfordshire countryside to one of the county's most intriguing landmarks: the haunting ruins of Old St Lawrence Church at Ayot St Lawrence.
Starting in Welwyn Garden City, we'll explore the peaceful trails of Sherrardspark Wood before joining the Ayot Greenway, a former railway line now transformed into a scenic walking route. The trail winds through woodland, farmland, and quiet countryside before reaching Ayot St Lawrence, where we'll stop for lunch beside the fascinating church ruins and enjoy optional refreshments from the local pub.
After lunch, we continue along the Hertfordshire Way through rolling countryside, passing through the charming village of Preston before climbing into the Tatmore Hills, where wide-ranging views stretch across the surrounding landscape.
Our final miles lead us downhill into Hitchin, a historic market town full of character and charm. To round off the day, you're welcome to join us for an optional drink before heading home after another great Sunday adventure.

RSVP & ATTENDANCE
RSVP only if you plan to attend. Please cancel as early as possible if you can no longer make it so others can join. A no-show means you RSVPed but did not attend, or cancelled shortly before or after the start time. Repeated no-shows or late cancellations without a valid reason may lead to removal from the group. Reliable regular members who find themselves on the waitlist may message the host for priority consideration.
ββ
π£ GROUP PACE & PARTICIPATION GUIDELINES
This is a social group hike, and we ask everyone to stay with the group rather than rushing ahead or falling behind. Please keep the group in sight and remain within a reasonable distance, as a back marker may not always be present. Faster walkers should wait at junctions, and organisers may stop at suitable points for regrouping. If you choose to leave the group structure or continue at a significantly different pace, you will be considered to be hiking independently and responsible for your own route and safety. By attending, you agree to follow these guidelines.
