OVERVIEW
πŸ“ Distance: 23 km (β‰ˆ14.3 miles)
πŸ₯Ύ Difficulty: Moderate
πŸ“ˆπŸ“‰ Elevation: 175 m ascent / 175 m descent
🚢 Pace: Approximately 4.5 to 5.5 km/h throughout. This is a steady, purposeful walking pace suitable for a full-day hike. We'll keep the group together, with stops for regrouping where needed. It isn't a race, but it isn't a leisurely stroll either.

🟩 Terrain: A varied mix of woodland trails, field paths, quiet country lanes, open pastures, and plenty of flat sections, with a few gentle hills and one steeper climb. Overall, the terrain is not particularly strenuous. Some paths may be muddy after wet weather, while others can be narrow, uneven, or seasonally overgrown with nettles and brambles.

ABOUT
Join us for a sociable circular hike starting and finishing in Henley-on-Thames, one of the Thames Valley's most attractive riverside towns.

We'll begin by following the River Thames, enjoying views of the water as we pass boats, rowers, and elegant riverside properties. Along the way, we'll cross Hambleden Lock, a charming and picturesque stretch of the river where narrowboats, colourful flower displays, and peaceful waters create a quintessential English countryside scene.

As the weekend coincides with the final day of the Royal Regatta, we may get to see racing crews on the river and enjoy the lively atmosphere along the waterfront during the first section of our walk. Please note that a small section of the riverside path may be temporarily inaccessible due to the event, and a short route diversion may be required.

Our route then leads into the beautiful village of Hambleden, famous for its historic brick-and-flint cottages and unspoilt village character. Here we'll stop for lunch, giving you the opportunity to visit the village coffee shop, enjoy a drink at the pub, or take a stroll around the church and its peaceful churchyard.

After lunch, we'll head into the heart of the Chilterns National Landscape, following a mixture of woodland trails and open gravel tracks through rolling countryside. The route offers a varied and scenic mix of landscapes, from shaded woodland paths to open views across fields and valleys.

As we make our way back towards Henley, we'll rejoin the riverside, walking through wide grassy pastures often dotted with grazing sheep.

This is a wonderfully varied walk featuring riverside scenery, woodland trails, open countryside, charming villages, historic buildings, and some of the finest landscapes the Chilterns has to offer.

We'll finish back in Henley-on-Thames, where there will be the option to stay for a social drink at one of the town's many pubs or riverside venues before making the journey home. It's a great opportunity to unwind and chat about the day's walk with fellow hikers.

If you choose to leave the group structure or continue at a significantly different pace, you will be considered to be hiking independently and responsible for your own route and safety. By attending, you agree to follow these guidelines.
