🧠 How it will feel
Regular hikers: Comfortable and not demanding.
Casual walkers: Moderate, mainly because of the distance.
Newcomers: Manageable but challenging because of the distance.
---
Join us for a relaxed Sunday social hike starting and finishing in Tonbridge, a historic market town on the River Medway, best known for its impressive medieval castle and connection to the beautiful Weald of Kent.

This is a social walk for those who prefer a more relaxed pace and enjoy taking in the scenery, rather than treating the hike as a fitness challenge or a race from A to B.

We’ll begin at Tonbridge Castle gatehouse, one of England’s finest surviving medieval gatehouses, before heading towards peaceful Barden Lake. The route then explores the High Weald National Landscape, with its rolling countryside, woodland and historic villages.

Expect a mix of lakeside paths, woodland trails and open pasture with grazing sheep, plus a few gentle hills to add a little challenge.

We’ll stop for a picnic lunch near a village common, with a pub and local shops nearby. The walk finishes back in Tonbridge, with the option of a social drink at a local Wetherspoons before heading home.

👣 GROUP PACE & PARTICIPATION GUIDELINES
This is a social group hike, and everyone is expected to stay reasonably connected with the group rather than rushing far ahead or falling behind.

Please keep the group in sight and remain within a reasonable distance, as a back marker may not always be present. Faster walkers should wait at junctions, and organisers may stop at suitable points to allow the group to regroup.

If you choose to leave the group structure or continue at a significantly different pace, you will be considered to be hiking independently and will be responsible for your own route and safety.

By attending, you agree to follow these guidelines.
---
EXIT POINTS
There are no planned public transport exit points along the route. If you leave the walk early, you will need to arrange and pay for your own taxi back to Tonbridge.
