Summary of Chapter Three: Why Me?
(Pages 12–16)Main Idea
God is not looking for “capable” people to live life for others—He is looking for available people. The chapter answers the common question, “Why would God use me?” with two powerful truths: God’s capability (not ours) and our immense value to Him.Key Points
- Introduction – The Heart God Wants
- Isaiah 6:8: “Here I am. Send me.”
- Many Christians hesitate because they feel unqualified, unworthy, or inadequate.
- Capable? Or “Available?”
- The #1 reason Christians don’t minister to others is the belief “I am not capable.”
- God is not calling the most educated, trained, or talented people.
- Jesus chose 12 ordinary, uneducated men (fishermen, a tax collector, etc.) on purpose—to show that ministry is about availability, not ability.
- Key truth: “God CAN and WILL use you because He is NOT calling those who are CAPABLE… He is calling out those who are AVAILABLE.”
- Only God is capable. Our job is simply to be available so He can work through us.
- Your VALUE To God
- You are God’s “workmanship” / masterpiece (Ephesians 2:10).
- God values you so highly that He would have gone to the cross for you alone.
- He placed His very life in you, gave you a new identity, and loves you unconditionally—regardless of sins or failures.
- The more you believe how valuable you are to God, the easier it is to see the value of others.
- Your Value To the “ONE”
- Powerful story of Mike Wells:
- God sent him halfway around the world (costly trip) for a conference that had only two people.
- One was a deeply wounded woman who felt worthless.
- God used Mike to set her free and show her how infinitely valuable she was to Him.
- Lesson: Every person God brings into your “six square feet” is the “one” He values enough to send you to.
- You don’t have to travel the world—God will bring the “one(s)” to you today.
- Conclusion
- These truths move us from:
“Why me?”
→
“Here I am, send ME.”
One-Sentence Takeaway
God doesn’t need your capability—He only needs your availability. Because of how much He values you, He wants to use you to show His love and truth to the “one” He brings into your six square feet today.
