Synopsis: The classic book by J.R.R. Tolkien, “The Lord of the Rings” (LOTR), is undergoing a resurgence in popularity with the season 2 release of “The Rings of Power”. Interestingly enough, Tolkien disliked allegory and did not intend his writings to be as such. In other words, they do not contain hidden meanings. However, enthusiasts will agree that his writings were much more than entertainment for popular society. In fact, his purpose was to demonstrate the nature of the real world through fantasy. The presentation will address this and other philosophical questions as we discuss the question, Is the Lord of the Rings a Philosophical text?
