What we’re about
Free Thinker's Forum: A UU Humanist Discussion Group
Do you ever wonder how we humans got here, what life is all about, and how we can best live together with our fellow inhabitants of the cosmos? Humanism promotes and extends the use of rational inquiry without supernatural considerations, followed by compassionate action in all human interactions. If this sounds like you, please join us!
We are people from all faiths or none, freethinkers, humanists, atheists and agnostics, who come together to discuss collaboratively-chosen topics, listen with open minds, share with open hearts, work together on social activism projects, and enjoy supportive community. Our general format is a short presentation followed by an hour or so of open discussion of the subject. Your topic suggestions are welcome in this interactive, socially and intellectually nurturing group. We aim to learn from each other and celebrate our diversity. All are welcome, and all outlooks on the topics are respected.
We currently meet the second Sunday of every month from noon to 1:30 in a hybrid format, in person at UU Santa Fe on Barcelona at Galisteo, and via zoom. To get the zoom link, go to our meetup site under events, and click on the event you wish to attend, then you can access the zoom link at the Online event icon.

See all- The Future of Democratic Socialism in NMUnitarian Universalist, Santa Fe, NM
Democratic socialists believe that both the economy and society should be run democratically–to meet public needs, not to make profits for a few. They advocate for popular control of resources, economic planning, equitable distribution, feminism, racial equality, and non-oppressive relationships. Believing change must come from the bottom up, DSA organizes to harness working-class power against capitalist exploitation and systemic oppression. Who is the working for the working class? And how can we be more effective?
Alma Castro, one of the current co-chairs of the Santa Fe Chapter of the Democratic Socialist of America and a city councilwoman, will lead us in a discussion of Democratic Socialism, with a focus on what it is doing in NM and its plans for the future. Bring your questions, ideas, opinions, and concerns, and join in this lively discussion!
