Moral Responsibility, Ethical Development, and Critical Thinking

Moral Responsibility, Ethical Development and Critical Thinking are three of The Ten Commitments of humanism as published by the American Humanist Association. This presentation will involve a discussion of how moral responsibility and ethical development are to be understood in light of critical thinking. It will be argued that critical thinking is the paramount commitment of humanism, as it is of philosophy generally speaking, and that it is the one that should govern and limit the commitments to moral responsibility and ethical development.

The discussion will be lead by Dr. Gregory Brown, University of Houston professor emeritus of philosophy, who gave the well-received presentation on Moral Theory last April. Bring your questions and your ideas, and join us!

Freethinkers Forum meets the second Sunday of every month from noon - 1:30 pm in a hybrid format, in person at UU Santa Fe on the corner of Barcelona and Galisteo, and via zoom. We are a gathering of freethinkers and humanists, people from all faiths or none, who come together to discuss collaboratively-chosen topics, to listen with open minds, share with open hearts, work together on social activism projects and share supportive community. Our general format is a short presentation followed by an hour or so of open discussion of the subject. All are welcome, and all outlooks on the topics are respected. We aim to learn from each other and celebrate our diversity!
